California rivals, the San Francisco Giants and the San Diego Padres played Friday evening, July 14, 2017. Buster Posey started the scoring in the top of the first inning. With Brandon Belt on base, Posey hit this ball to right fielder Jabari Blash for a single. Belt raced home to score the first run of the game. The single was the 1095th hit of Posey’s career and 563rd RBI. The two offenses battled back and forth all game, the difference coming in the top of the seventh inning when Posey again was at bat. On a 0-2 fastball, Posey hit a solo home run to give the visiting Giants a 5-3 lead. The Padres challenged the Giants in the bottom of the ninth, scoring one run, and loading the bases before Jabari Blash popped out to right field. With the win, the Giants improved to 35-56, but still in last place in the NL West.
