The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Los Angeles Dodgers played on July 17, 2016, for the rubber match of a three-game series after splitting the first two. In the bottom of the seventh inning, with a 5-0 lead and runners on first and second, Chris Hatcher threw a 95.7 MPH Fastball to Paul Goldschmidt. Goldy hit the ball to shortstop Corey Seager, who relayed it over to Chris Taylor at second base to get Michael Bourn on a force out. The play was ruled a fielder’s choice. Jean Segura moved up to third base on the play. While Jake Lamb was batting after Goldschmidt, a wild pitch got past the catcher, allowing Segura to score, and Goldschmidt to steal second base. This game the Diamondbacks a 6-0 lead. However, Brandon Drury lined out to end the inning before any more damage could be done. The run on the wild pitch was the difference maker. The Dodgers scored two in the eighth and three in the ninth but fell short, 6-5. The win improved the Diamondbacks record to 40-53 where they sit-in last place in the NL West.
