The Astros hosted the Rangers in a matchup between the two top teams in Texas on May 1, 2017. The Astros were battling back and had just taken a 3-2 lead with runners on second and third base and one out when Carlos Correa stepped into the batter’s box. He fouled the first pitch out of play before this baseball entered the game. Correa watched Tony Barnette throw the next two pitches for balls before a 94.6 MPH fastball came towards the plate. Correa hit the ball up the middle, leaving his bat at 108.41 MPH for a double that drove home both Josh Reddick and Jose Altuve. The ball remained in play as Dario Alvarez was brought in to replace Tony Barnette, and Carlos Beltran was the next batter. With a count of 2-2, Alvarez threw a wild pitch that allowed Correa to take third base. A new ball was brought into the game, and Carlos Beltran struck out. Yuli Durriel hit a double in his next at-bat to score Carlos Correa, to make the score 6-2. Finally, Brian McCann grounded out to end the inning, but not before the Astros scored five runs. This inning was the difference as the Astros went on to win 6-2. Their record improved to 17-9, and Houston was in first place in the AL West.
