Late in the summer, Mike Trout showed why he would go on to be the 2012 American League Rookie of the Year as the Angles visited the Red Sox in Boston. Leading off the game, Trout struck out. In his next at-bat, Trout was able to reach base on a force out, as the Red Sox got the lead runner at second base. However, once he reached the third inning. Trout roped a two-strike pitch to right field, driving in a run to tie the game at 6-6. Again, in the seventh inning, Trout drove in a run with his second single of the game, followed by another single in the top of the 9th inning. In the end, Trout finished the game with three singles, for career hits 168, 169, and 170, and career RBIs 87 and 88. Nine innings was not enough, as the game was tied. In the top of the tenth inning, the Angels scored two runs, on a solo home run by Kendrys Morales, and an RBI double by Vernon Wells. The Red Sox got one run back in the bottom of the inning but ultimately lost, 14-13. The Angels improved with this win to 65-60, but sit in third place, trailing the Rangers by 8.5 games in the AL West.
