The Yankees and the Mets met at Citi Field for an interleague series in June 2018. When Gleyber Torres stepped up to bat in the top of the sixth inning on June 8th, he had one out, and Masahiro Tanaka on first base, having reached on a fielding error. Torres hit this baseball on the third pitch of the at-bat to centerfield for a single, and advanced Tanaka to second base. This hit was the 42ns hit of Torres’ career. Brett Gardner walked next to load the bases for Aaron Judge. Judge hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Tanaka. Torres moved up to third base. In the next at-bat, Greg Bird struck out to end the inning. But the Judge sac fly tied the game at 1-1. Later in the game during the top of the eighth inning, Torre again reached base on a single and scored on the next at-bat when Brett Gardner hit a two-run home run to put the Yankees ahead 3-1. The Yankees would add one more run in the ninth and win by a final score of 4-1. With the win, they improved to 40-19, and have the second-best record in baseball, trailing only the Red Sox by 1.5 games.
