On July 24th, 2015 the San Francisco Giants played host to their neighbors from across the bay, the Oakland Athletics. Buster Posey, on his way to his third Silber Slugger season, saw this ball in an at-bat in the sixth inning. With one out and the bases empty, Angel Castro delivered an 86.9 MPH changeup. Posey hit it for a single to left field. This was the 778th hit of Posey’s career. The ball still had some life in it and stayed in the game for Hunter Pence’s at-bat. Castro threw a 93.1 MPH called a strike, and followed it with a curveball that hit the dirt, taking this baseball out of the game. As the at-bat continued, Pence hit a weak grounder to the shortstop, but beat out the throw for a single, advancing Posey to second base. The next two Giants batters were retired to end the inning. Posey ended the game 3 for 4 with an RBI on a first-inning sacrifice fly. Hunter Pence also had a big game, batting 4 for 5 with a double and two RBIs. The Giants never trailed and won 9-3 to improve to 52-44, three games behind the Dodgers for first place in the NL West.
