The Angels were off to a hot start winning eight of their first eleven games when they played the Texas Rangers on April 10, 2018. And the Angles stayed hot, scoring eleven runs off of eighteen hits, including a fourth-inning Mike Trout home run. Missing from the line-up was Shohei Ohtani, who in his short Major League career had already pitched in two games, and played DH in another four games. But at the top of the ninth inning, Los Angeles needed a pinch-hitter, and Ohtani was called upon. This baseball was the first pitch he faced in this first career pinch-hit at-bat. Bartolo Colon pitched this baseball 90.2 MPH for a called ball. The baseball was replaced, and on the next pitch Ohtani grounded out to second base. The Angels were able to hold off the Rangers in the bottom of the ninth inning for an 11-1 win to improve to 9-3, tied with Houston for first place in their division.
