Just over a month into the season, the 2018 Red Sox were leading all of baseball with a 22-8 record. They played in Texas on the 3rd of May and quickly fell behind the Rangers. By the time the fourth inning started, Texas had a 4-1 lead. This baseball was used when Rafael Devers led off the top of the inning. The first pitch from Mike Minor was a ball. The second pitch was a 90.9 MPH fastball that Devers hit with an exit velocity of 112.86 MPH to right field. The hit fell for a single. Two batters later, the bases were loaded for Christian Vazquez. Vazquez hit a ball to the shortstop that dropped for a single. Allowing Devers to score, and cut the Rangers lead to 4-2. Jackie Bradley struck out, bringing up Mookie Betts. Betts hit a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing runners to advance, and Eduardo Nunez scored. The game was now 4-3. Hanley Ramirez batted next, hoping to tie the game, but he grounded out to the pitcher to end the inning. The Rangers responded in the home half of the inning by scoring six runs, and they never looked back on their way to an 11-5 win. The loss dropped the Red Sox to 22-9, but they still held the best record in all of baseball.
